Quoted

"This guy's walking down the street when he falls in a hole. The walls are so steep he can't get out.
"A doctor passes by and the guy shouts up, 'Hey you. Can you help me out?' The doctor writes a prescription, throws it down in the hole and moves on.
"Then a priest comes along and the guy shouts up, 'Father, I'm down in this hole can you help me out?' The priest writes out a prayer, throws it down in the hole and moves on
"Then a friend walks by, 'Hey, Joe, it's me can you help me out?' And the friend jumps in the hole. Our guy says, 'Are you stupid? Now we're both down here.' The friend says, 'Yeah, but I've been down here before and I know the way out.'"

  1. A most profound and thought provoking analogy. I recall being in a similar place.
    Take care of yourself.

  4. I was directed to your blog by Gary (aka klahanie) and I find it a really good read.
As you may have guessed, I have had my own mental health issues. In fact, I have been diagnosed with everything fom depression to bipolar disorder to schizo-affective disorder and, finally, schizophrenia. So, in my own blog, as well as speaking about my own experiences and interests, I try to dismantle some of the myths surrounding mental illness and challenge the stigma which surrounds it.
It always appears to me that there seems to be a sort of hierarchy of mental health problems. Schizophrenia, for example, is regarded as more serious and severe then depression. But, having had episodes of depression myself, I find that it was just as debilitating as anything else that I have experienced. Suffice to say that I think you do very well to maintain such a positive outlook, despite the illness, and I hope you continue to write about it with such clarity and insight.
    With Very Best Wishes,
    David.
